Powtoon

This post is also available in: Nederlands (Dutch)

PowToon is a webbased application for creating animated videos. This tool provides the user with images, templates, movements, and music, among other things, to develop animations.  An animated video is a short video with drawn persons, objects or texts. The application offers the user images, templates, movements, music and more to create their own animations. The application offers many preset options for creating scenes, as well as freedom and space to upload your own material.

Topics you can create visualize using Powtoon, and make an animated video about, include procedures, narrative themes, and complex concepts. Just make sure the information is not too in-depth or detailed. Animated videos serve as a catchy and short method of explaining a topic. For example, you can use it as a knowledge clip.

To create an animated video, it is useful to work with a script. More information on working with a script can be found in the online module on knowledge clips (log in with Solis-id). This module also discusses, among other things, the didactic added value of knowledge clips and how you can use knowledge clips in your teaching and what opportunities there are within Utrecht University to make knowledge clips.
