Brightspace Rubrics
This post is also available in: Nederlands (Dutch)
A rubric is a useful tool for providing feedback and assessing products and skills like writing assignments, presentations or projects. A rubric has the form of a table and consists of:
- different assessment criteria (rows);
- different performance/mastery levels (columns);
- indicators: descriptions of these criteria at these levels (cells).
Brightspace has its own tool for rubrics, which you can customise for each assignment and then use in combination with other Brightspace functionalities, such as Brightspace Assignments, Discussions and Quizzes (for open-ended questions).
Brightspace Rubrics includes the following features:
- Copy previously created rubrics via Course Copy.
- Share a rubric with students, before or after assessment.
- Assign points to each individual criterion and level within the rubric.
- Link rubrics to Grade Items.
- Share rubrics with colleagues.
- Add customized feedback.
Make use of the manual on the Brightspace Support page if you want to know more about Rubrics.
Is it possible to import a previously developed Rubric into Brightspace?
Unfortunately it is not possible to import a previously developed Rubric into Brightspace. The information from this Rubric must be re-entered into Brightspace. However, once this has been done, it is possible to copy a Rubric in Brightspace from one course to another.
The Teaching and Learning Collection offers an example (in Dutch) of a rubric for Scientific Presentations.
